Stand up and Smile

Stand up and Smile is a British dental healthcare brand shaking up the childrens’ toothbrush market. As well as being great fun for kids (and adults!) the wobbly Stand up and Smile toothbrushes encourage fun and play whilst brushing and the self righting nature keeps the head away from all of the germs and nasty things that hang around in bathrooms.

Stand up and Smile approached Ignitec to design the flagship product for their Rockabilly Kids brand; the iconic wobbly toothbrush. Critical to the design were the product’s ability to stand up and carry exciting decorations which would appeal to children and of course, as with all fast moving consumer products, hitting a tight manufacturing part cost. Challenges such as balance and effective self righting were overcome through the use of highly accurate, in-house rapid prototyping which allowed us to continually test and fine tune the centre of gravity. As a part of our supplier matching programme we were able to introduce Stand up and Smile to one of our trusted manufacturing partners during the development process. The very strict unit cost objectives were achieved thanks to the expertise and collaboration of our manufacturing partner.

Printing on the product was essential to making it an eye catching and appealing product for children, however the shape of the product made this extremely difficult and many manufacturers were unable to achieve this. Through a collaboration with our manufacturing partner we were also able to achieve a high quality print over 180 degrees of the product using their state of the art manufacturing technology.

The Rockabilly Kids toothbrushes will be in major highstreet retailers including Boots, Wilkinson and Tesco early 2016.
